Heart of Goldie

December 4th, 2018

Abode Services is proud to announce that Goldie's Home LLC is a member of our honorary Circle of Community Elevators, a recognition society of housing providers who house people in Abode programs. Goldie's has earned the additional title of "City Highriser" for its notably high level of engagement, working with more than 10 Abode program households.

When Nina Christian sat down with us to share her story, she literally sparkled from the red glitter that freckled her face and clothes. She was taking a break from her annual holiday decorating spree, as she had joined several residents to transform two Hayward properties into winter wonderlands for everyone to enjoy.

It's an especially important time of year for Christian, who owns a rental property management company called Goldie's Home LLC. Christian prides herself on providing quality housing for homeless families and individuals.

"I see the beautiful person inside," she said. "They have a bigger heart than anyone."

Goldie's has earned the additional title of "City Highriser" for its notably high level of engagement, working with more than 10 Abode program households.

Christian began rehousing those in need in 2004, when she partnered with a local nonprofit group. She said her efforts then were fueled by her frustration with the dire conditions that homeless people endure.

In 2014, Christian met one of Abode's housing specialists and learned about its housing programs. She had been housing homeless individuals for about a decade, but she was impressed that Abode programs were strongly advocating formal housing quality standards for their participants.

Christian credits Abode's housing specialists for showing her the ropes about keeping her units up to code. Her partnership wth Abode since then has grown from rehousing a handful of program households to more than 10.

Alameda County, where roughly 5,600 individuals are experiencing homelessness, is fortunate to have a community member as committed as Christian to preserving the dignity and safety of the less fortunate during these winter months.

Thank you, Nina Christian and Goldie's Home LLC, for your partnership in ending cycles of homelessness in the Bay Area.
