Napa County

Abode has been working in Napa County since 2017. Our efforts there include operating an emergency shelter and providing outreach, housing support, and rental assistance. We also create and manage affordable housing.

South Napa Shelter

Abode operates the South Napa Shelter and the South Napa Day Center.

The South Napa Shelter, a 102-bed facility for adults, has served individuals experiencing homelessness since 2006.

The South Napa Day Center (formerly known as the Hope Center) moved from its downtown location to the South Napa Shelter in 2018.

Services available there during the day include: showers, mail delivery, laundry, lunch, medical clinic, social services and housing navigation.

Hot Lunch Program

Six days a week, Abode serves nutritious hot meals to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Napa County.

Abode started the program in 2018, when the South Napa Day Center moved to our facilities at the South Napa Shelter.

“Abode provides housing support for the homeless in Napa County, and we started a hot lunch program at South Napa Day Center to serve adults living in homelessness in Napa,” said Wendi Moore, volunteer coordinator for Abode in Napa.

The program is bolstered by local restaurant partners, such as Kitchen Door restaurant in Napa. Chef Todd Humphries of Kitchen Door has been preparing hot, nutritious meals for the program since its earliest days. Even better, Kitchen Door’s leaders have encouraged other local eateries to also contribute to the program.

The Hot Lunch Program continues offering warm, nutritious meals six days a week at the South Napa Day Center. “And our participants are grateful for the nourishment,” Moore said.

Heritage House Apartments and Valle Verde Apartments

Heritage House Apartments and Valle Verde Apartments will consist of two separate buildings featuring a combined 90 units of affordable multi-family housing, including 44 permanent supportive housing units. The sites are dedicated for low-income families and formerly homeless individuals who are low-income or living with developmental or mental health disabilities. The adjacent housing communities on a nearly 4-acre property will be located at 3700 and 3710 Valle Verde Drive in Napa.

Heritage House Apartments will feature 66 new units, including multi-family apartments for low-income residents. The site will be an adaptive reuse of a vacant assisted living facility that was built in 1988 and ceased operations in 2004. Heritage House will be repurposed as 58 individual apartments and 8 one-bedroom homes with new features, including individual kitchenettes in each unit, new appliances, communal laundry facilities, community spaces, and other resident amenities. Space will be set aside for providing supportive services, such as two services offices and three private conference meeting rooms. Valle Verde Apartments will consist of 24 residential units, a property management office, community room, central laundry, and central trash room. It will feature 12 one-bedroom apartments, 6 two-bedroom units, and 6 three-bedroom homes. Each home will have a private balcony, and nearly all units will feature views of the creek, the central courtyard, and the community amenity spaces. The courtyard has a playground, BBQ area, half-basketball court, and paths to public open space.

These housing sites stem from a partnership between Gasser Foundation, Burbank Housing, City and County of Napa, Chase, Enterprise, California Department of Housing and Community Development, No Place Like Home, Joe Serna Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant Program, and Abode Housing Development. The development’s architect is Gunkel Architecture. Abode will provide ongoing supportive services to residents with special needs.

Construction is planned for completion by Summer 2023. Resident lease-up is expected to be complete by December 2023.
