Santa Cruz County

Abode has been working in Santa Cruz County since 2012. We collaborate with several entities on the Rehousing Wave program to help hundreds of people during the pandemic through federal and state funding. We also manage Resetar Residential Hotel, an affordable housing site in Watsonville where we serve more than 100 residents.

Featured Program

Rehousing Wave

Santa Cruz County’s Rehousing Wave program has been developed to help hundreds of people who have received shelter, food and critical services during the pandemic through federal and state funding.

Abode is collaborating on this program with several community stakeholders: Santa Cruz County’s Housing for Health Division, Housing Matters, the Community Action Board, the Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building Board of Trustees, and the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz. Community members, including local property owners and managers, play vital roles in this effort.

More information about the Rehousing Wave program can be found at this link to the Homeless Action Partnership website.

Landlord Outreach

Rehousing Wave

Thousands of individuals and families in Santa Cruz County need a home. Abode is searching for landlords, property owners, and housing providers who can help our neighbors who have been sheltered during the COVID-19 pandemic and now are seeking a home.

The Rehousing Wave program for landlords provides incentives and supportive services to ensure a smooth and mutually beneficial process for landlords and new tenants. Kamal Naran is one of those Santa Cruz landlords with whom Abode has partnered. Through this video link, watch Naran explain how Abode has helped him and tenants who rent at his Santa Cruz property.

Featured Housing Community

Resetar Residential Hotel

We have managed a Santa Cruz County site for affordable housing since 2012: Resetar Residential Hotel.

The Resetar Residential Hotel is a former hotel that has been converted into a 90-unit housing site in downtown Watsonville. The building, which was built in the 1920s, now has 12 one-bedroom apartments and 78 studio apartments. It has more than 100 residents, about half of which were formerly homeless.

In its heyday in the mid-20th century, the Resetar Residential Hotel was a hub of activity.  Today, the building remains close to public transit and shopping. The housing site’s amenities include a laundry room, community room, food pantry, and on-site property management and services.

Abode has two full time on-site service coordinators providing to residents a number of services. Those services include life-skills training, financial literacy classes, educational workshops, health-and-wellness programs, case management, housing stability services, and recovery support.
